Pink Ribbon Giveaway: OtterBox Strength Cases for iPhone and iPod Nano
According to Merriam-Webster, strength is:
- The quality or state of being strong : capacity for exertion or endurance
- Power to resist force : solidity, toughness
- Power of resisting attack : impregnability
How fitting that OtterBox’s new line of pink cases to support the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade is named “Strength”.
My source at OtterBox explained this to me recently:
“Specializing in protective cases for technology and valuables, OtterBox now offers limited edition pink “Strength” cases for the iPhone and nano 3rd generation (coming soon for 3G iPhone). With an online order of an OtterBox “Strength” case, 10% of the purchase price will be donated to the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade to support access to care and finding a cure for breast cancer, with a focus on the medically underserved.”
Here’s some fun for you … I received two cases to review and giveaway to two lucky Pink Ribbon Readers: one from their iPhone Defender series and another from their iPod Nano 3rd Generation Defender series.

Why do you need these?
- Well, if you have an iPhone (if you plan on getting one on Friday when the new one is released — twice as fast, half the price — you’ll have to wait for a new case), you must know — it’s a slippery little bugger.
- If you have an iPod Nano, you know there’s no protection as it sits without a case — and if you like to tote it along with you to the gym, the beach, camping, wherever … you might want to keep it safe from harm.
Straight away I want to tell you, the boxes had me jazzed … a special label is adhered to each, with a full product description, stamped with a “Help Fight Breast Cancer” badge, an obvious reference to the specific charity they support and information about the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade as well.
Now, for the products themselves:
- The cases themselves aren’t intrinsically easy to open. However, once you pull out the directions, you’ll be able to figure it out and feel confident that they won’t fall apart, either.
- On the iPhone, the button pass-through is great — it’s not any harder to push any of the buttons and actually, feels easier, for whatever reason — maybe it is psychological.
- The iPhone’s built in speaker passes through the cover easily — so there’s no barrier to use there.
- The iPhone model comes with a beltclip that is very similar to the clip that comes with a Blackberry — so if you’re used to that, it’ll feel very comfortable for you.
- The headphone and dock connectors are accessible, however, you’ll have to remove this from the case in order to plug it into a sound/speaker dock.
- The silicone makes each product just a little bit bulkier in your hand, but it feels more secure and you don’t get the feeling that either unit is going to slip out of your hands.
- The cases fits very snug — so they’re not as easy to fit in your pocket but it is definitely protective.
The iPhone case retails for $50 and the iPod Nano case is $30 — but one can be yours if you follow these very specific instructions! (Of course, you can always order one online here — they’re worth the price.)
- Leave a comment on this post completing this sentence: “Strength is … ” Here’s an example: Strength is waking up the morning after your chemotherapy treatment and making your kid a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for their school lunch.
- Include which case you’re hoping for (obviously if you don’t have an iPhone or iPod Nano you’ll be disappointed later if that’s the one I select for you so let’s be clear from the get-go). It’s okay to say either one!
This contest ends at midnight on Wednesday, July 9th, 2008 (EST). Only qualifying entries will be considered and winners will be pulled at random the next day and posted asap. Only participants in the US are eligible (sorry my foreign friends, I can’t spend a fortune on shipping).
Good luck!

70 opinions for Pink Ribbon Giveaway: OtterBox Strength Cases for iPhone and iPod Nano

I’ve known two wonderful women who are survivors of breast cancer. One, a former coworker named Rose a few years ago-and most recently Mrs. Gurney, one my my 6 year olds favorite afterschool care/summer camp teachers. This past fall, we held a fund raiser for Mrs. Gurney to help her with her astronomical medical expenses. She has been an inspiration to us all, tired after chemo, but still a champion educator to the children who know and love her. Strength is not giving up, but facing every day with a smile-accepting each new day as a challenge and using your beauty from within on days when you look in the mirror and want to cry.
(Rose had beautiful long hair, during treatment she lost that. She took it very hard, but she never lost her sense of humor, going from wigs to bandannas, to nothing. After her chemo was done, she kept a nice new short cut, and was actually laughing at herself for looking like a 50+ biker chick before chemo. Her new cut, and new attitude-were great.) If I win, the iPod nano case would be perfect! Thanks for having the giveaway, it made me really think about the courage and inner strength these two lovely ladies possess.

Strength is making jokes to your grandkids about the external fluid sacks hanging off your pelvis as you face breast cancer. Strength is my grandmother. Strength is racing a bike race to raise money for other people with cancer, when you have cancer yourself. Strength is my father.
If I win, the ipod nano case would be stellar.

Strength is raising your kid sister after your mom passes away in 6 months time from breast cancer. It is being the “mom” to your 4 siblings. It is being the dad when no dad is around after your mom passed. It is working a fulltime job, going to school fulltime, and coming home to do the laundry and make dinner because you are now the adult of the house.
Strength is not being able to see your mom any more, but knowing she is there with you…ALWAYS!
Strength is the love of family.

Strength is getting out of bed some days, driving your loved one to treatment, watching them struggle to try to live. Strength is being there for them, and being there when they’re gone.
They say tragedy makes one stronger. All in all, I’d rather take vitamins and hit the gym.

Strength is watching your grandma going through every chemotherapy treatment at her bedside just to support her through it.
Strength is watching your grandfather die of lung cancer and being there at his death bed and the last thing he says is “Ill be at your wedding, one way or another”. Strength is knowing he will be there.

Strength is epitomized in my husband when he learned how to walk again after his multiple surgeries, and when he never complains about the pain even when I know its intense, and he still takes care of me during my bad days even when I know he has it one hundred times worse.

Strength is not always parallel with love and/or devotion, but rather training your senses to resist…it is not always about what you want, but rather what you want for others…Strength is standing up when you want to sit down. Never let go of your strength, because it is awful to lose.

Strength is…a quality I thought I had until I see my girlfriend, the same age as me, battle breast cancer.Radiation, loss of her gorgeous hair and forced menopause. What does she do?
She decides to volunteer at the Childrens Hospital because she says they are far worse off than her and she is able to cheer them; they make her forget.
That’s what strength is.
Now I know what strength is.

Strength is standing up for what is right, no matter what people think…and defending your best friend, even though she has been bullied at school because of her appearance…and risking your other ‘friendships’ in defense of this person you care about…it is something I am learning right now from my 13 year old daughter…who is the strongest and most amazing person I know…who is still liked by many girls but refuses to do what the ‘majority’ is doing, no matter what ’social risks’ she is taking…
Iphone please…thank you!!!! (this is for my amazing daughter…if I win…) :)

Strength is keeping the fire alive in your marriage, always letting the woman you love know she means the world to you.
