Can you use a pink DaysAgo Digital Day Counter? (Because I’m Giving One Away!)

Do you ever ask yourself any of these questions:
- How many days ago did I open this can of tomato sauce?
- How old is this milk?
- How long has it been since I cleaned the fish tank?
- Have I taken this antibiotic for ten days?
- When was the last time I changed the filter on my cat’s litter box?
- Am I due for a breast self exam ????????
Kathleen Whitehurst is a nine year breast cancer survivor. She and her business partner, Debbie Stephens Stauffer, invented a way to allow families to keep track of these and other lifestyle tasks. It’s called the DaysAgo digital day counter. It has won all kinds of awards and has been featured in several consumer magazines, online and on television.
Here’s how it works. With the touch of a button, you can keep track of anything … all you have to do once you take the unit out of the package is pull the side tab out of the unit to engage the battery, press the button for five seconds to set the timer, and affix it onto any surface via a magnet, suction cup or elastic band (included, but any rubber band will work). The screen displays the number of days elapsed since setting the timer — it’s that easy! The batteries are replaceable, so you can use it over and over again for a myriad of purposes!
I tried one out before writing this post: a demo DaysAgo is on a jar of salsa I just opened to make tonight’s dinner — another is going on one of my flower pots because I’m notorious for forgetting to water my plants. So easy to use — and what a relief to know that two things I used to need to retain can be taken off my list. Life just got easier for me, seriously.
The website has a great refrigerator storage chart, FYI, that everyone should keep handy even if they don’t have one of these counters.
You can buy the DaysAgo online of course, or at Sur La Table, H-E-B, select Whole Foods Markets and The Container Store nationwide!
But listen … here’s why I’m telling you about this gadget guys and girls: Whitehurst’s company, double u products inc., recently introduced a pink DaysAgo counter as part of their commitment to helping women of all ages get into the habit of doing regular BSE by tracking how long it’s been since their last BSE. 10% of the pink DaysAgo sales are donated to breast cancer research. That’s a pink ribbon promise! Can I hear a “wahooo” anyone? WAHOOOOO!
FYI, Kathleen and her daughter Jamie are participating this summer in the Avon 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer in San Francisco (July 12-13, 2008). For their first walk together, they generated around $20K in pledges — this year, they are hoping to beat that number and I’d like to wish them Godspeed!
But wait, there’s more: I’m giving away one pink DaysAgo counter to a Pink Ribbon Review Reader in an effort to help them track their last BSE!!! Here’s how to win:
Leave a comment on this post owning up to the date of your last BSE (feel free to explain your answer but I’m not here to judge). I’ll award it to someone randomly selected from the list one week from today!

I last did a BSE on 05/12/08. I know the date because I had just had a follow-up exam by my surgeon (who now only wants to see me once a year - woo-hoo! 5-year survivor!). I always do a BSE after the appointment, while I remember the current “correct” way to do it. (THe approved style has changed over the years.) But, even after going through a lumpectomy, chemo and radiation, I STILL have trouble remembering to do the exam every month. My lump was so deep that even after the mammogram detected it and we knew where it was, the doctor could not feel it! So I’m still not sure what I’m feeling for, but if I feel something (other than scar tissue) I’m letting my oncologist know!

Since I haven’t been good about BSE lately, this would be a great tool for me (and make my doctor very happy.) Thanks for the offer!

The good thing about BSE is that you can pick up where you left off today and just do it! (Catherine, I love your way of remembering; thank you for sharing.)
Sharon, you don’t have to go anywhere to do a BSE. If you (or any of ya’ll) need a refresher on how to administer a breast self exam check this post of mine: BSE!

Like Elizabeth Ray - I am a Breast Cancer Survivor (actually a two time survivor) and have undergone lumpectomieS, radiation, chemo and am still taking Arimidex (tres $$$$) - At first - did the BSE at least one EVERYDAY - then once a week now about every 10 days - a day counter would be wonderful - since even though I promise myself I will remember/won’t forget - it’s just so easy to lose track of time…

As a BC survivor, I try to be vigilant about self-exams. (It’s been four weeks at least.) But life gets hectic and I forget, so this would be a great reminder tool. (So how does one stick it to the boobs…suction cup, rubber band, personal preference…? LOL)

Truthfully I don’t do BSE very often. I’m a breastfeeding mommy so my boobs constantly feel different depending on the day, the week, eatting, etc. However.. now that I’m charting again (blah) I will do one once a month when it reminds me on my NFP chart. THanks for a great contest.

My last thorough BSE was probably last June at my annual exam. I know that’s terrible but it’s true. I know I should do it but the only thing I keep checking is a lump I’ve had for years which is a cyst but I keep an eye on it. I should be doing this because my mom just had breast cancer a year ago. What is my problem? Now I’m really ticked at myself since I started typing here. There’s no excuse for my laziness.

Ages since my last BSE (and years since I was supposed to have a mammogram). Why do we as women put off the most important things?

I do mine pretty frequently. Just because I am a little paranoid. I usually do it about twice a month or so. I don’t time it to the day so my last one was about 4 days ago.

I’m like a lot of people and don’t do it because I either forget or don’t know how to exactly. I’m glad this website and “daysago” are reminding us to stop being so complacent.

May 24th!
(A local TV station (Fresno’s KSEE-24) has a program called Buddy Check - on the 24th of every month they remind you to remind a friend to do a BSE — which comes in very handy since I have a tendency to forget!)

Thanks to all of you for these entries! Your candid responses will help make sure all the readers here are not alone in their habits.
Rita … I love that system. I blogged about a similar system in Illinois at my previous blog a while back — it’s a great program indeed. I’ll toy with doing something similar. Maybe the winner here picks the day each month I remind everyone?
