Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure
The first Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure took place in 1983. By 1995, events were held in 57 US cities. This year, it’s a 25th anniversary celebration at national races … more than 1 million people participate in more than 100 races throughout the world. It’s the largest 5K runs/fitness walks in the world.
In case you’re interested … there are a few Susan G. Komen Races for the Cure taking place this weekend:
- Fayetteville, AR (Ozark Affiliate)
- Indianapolis, IN (Indianapolis Affiliate)
- Spokane, WA (Eastern Washington Affiliate)
From the Komen site, here’s a direct disclosure of how the race funds are used:
“A minimum of twenty-five percent of the net income from each domestic Affiliate Race supports the Komen for the Cure Award and Research Grant Programs, which fund groundbreaking breast cancer research, meritorious awards and educational and scientific conferences around the world. Up to seventy-five percent of the net income from each domestic Affiliate Race stays in the local community to fund breast health education and breast cancer screening and treatment projects.”
Do you race? Share with us all what you get out of it if you do!
