Do you know her as Miranda Hobbes, the workaholic lawyer? Did you watch Sex and the City? Well, Cynthia Nixon is also the daughter of a two time breast cancer survivor and has now told the world that she’s a survivor herself.

She kept her 2006 diagnosis and treatment to herself — but is now speaking out as an ambassador for Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

That website, by the way, has some great video clips you all should check out. Here’s some advice she gives on one of the videos on the Komen site: “Be proactive. Get mammograms. Don’t be afraid … this is a really handleable disease if you catch it on time.”

When I went for my baseline mammogram I felt so strong, so powerful. I remember calling my mother on the way home, feeling so grown-up … I felt like a true adult woman for, I think, the first time in my life. I had taken control of my life and my health and felt truly invincible. (Alright, until the phone rang a few hours later saying I needed to go back … but that feeling isn’t the one I’m describing right now!)

That empowered feeling can happen for you, you know. Most people walk out of their first mammogram without a breast cancer diagnosis. Most people walk out of a biopsy without a breast cancer diagnosis.

Be a member of the healthy, strong majority. If you’re not already getting regular mammograms and you are ‘of age’ — call a mammogram facility today.

Who else agrees with Cynthia and I?
